First of all - I have probably the simplest most straightforward taxes to file, just from work and some stocks. I have filed taxes myself, with turbotax, and with other CPA. Never got fined from IRS before. They ended up overclaimed my tax returns from IRS by adding a Recovery Rebate Credit that they just assume that IRS owes me which they never confirmed with me. IRS ended up finding out that they made an error and asked me to pay them back the money plus a fine. Imagine paying a CPA service to put together some simple tax forms and they ended up messing it up and cost you to pay extra money on top of the tax you owe to the government.
