Nissen and Associates, Taxes and Accounting

I'm not normally one to leave poor reviews for local businesses, but as a local business myself, I feel the need to warn others. I moved all my bookkeeping and accounting service for my business over to Nissen last year. They missed or messed up payroll at least 4 times over the course of 6 months, leaving my employees paid days late. They missed key quarterly filings leaving accounts delinquent. Communication with Scott is lackluster - he generally takes multiple days to respond about time-sensitive information. I paid them to balance my books, but after the first two months of working with them, the books were never balanced again. When they sent mine and my emplyees W-2s at the end of the year, they left our social security numbers exposed to the outside of the envelope (they attempted to black it out with marker but the numbers were still visible), meaning any postal agent or person handling our mail could see our SSN. I ended up moving all services over to another accountant a few months later.

New small business and am anxious with trusting others with my finances, but the reviews and first meeting with Michelle made Nissen sound perfect! I started getting information and paperwork in order in fall of 2023 to make sure we had everything together well in advance as I knew my schedule would begin to get a lot busier (which is also why I was seeking assistance). 2024 came and I got everything to her by end of February/early March. April came and I had not heard anything, so I called to check in and was told everything was in order and ready to proceed. On April 15th I got a voicemail saying something has been missed and they had filed an extension on my behalf and would likely incur fees so I need to call back asap. I had to step away from my client to call back and sort out the details. At this point I was quite frustrated because I’d been trying to get everything in order for many months, and was assured everything that was supposed to be done had been but now was being told things were missed, details not gone over and I may incur additional expenses because of it. I asked if my account was not large enough for their services and if that was why I seemed to have been missed. To which I was told no, she had just been going over details with other clients and that was why she didn’t get to me. At this point I felt very unsure of the quality of work I would receive, but just wanted it to be done as it was now late. She told me she’d contact me the following week to go over info to lower my taxes payment, to which I had to call twice to make it happen and we spent 5minutes discussing the info. Honestly, my experience felt very unprofessional and dismissive. And I have a client who has also worked with them and stated Nissen has missed that she has a child she claims on her taxes as well. So if you choose them be prepared to have to follow up on every detail and likely receive rude responses (this review is already long or is go into the details of that also) for doing so. 2 stars for at least getting my tax payment lowered.

I have had Scott do my taxes for the lasts 5 years. He is efficient, knowledgeable, and personable. I look forward each year to meeting with him to go over my taxes.

I contacted this accountant 3 weeks ago about switching my accounting services to him. NO reply. Accountants that are difficult to get ahold of for information requests are a huge red flag. I fired an accountant in the past for being unresponsive. The initial lack of response has saved me time from firing this one for being unresponsive in the future.

Great. He cleaned up mess of taxes left from deceased loved one, and our personal taxes. Ill keep using his services. He was super fast, knowledgeable, and efficient. I feel at ease knowing I am in good hands.
