I have been doing my own taxes since i was 16 years old. This tax season i have a dependent and wanted to go with a professional. I have seen many of my facebook friends recommend a tax professional that happened to be black owned, i was happy to try and do business with her! I inquired with her first through her business page, i had alot of questions that i am thankful that she did answer, we went forward with her calling me and going over her procedure, I downloaded an app and submitted my info and called her as she instructed me to do, i was unable to reach her but got a message shortly after saying that she would call me back in 10 minutes.. knowing that her business hours were until 4, i still expected her to call back, she did not return my call but read my message. Meanwhile, i went to get an estimate of how much my return would be while waiting on her call to make sure that she would give me the maximum amount. The next day, this morning, I reached out to let her know that i still expected to hear from her, she let me know that i was going to be her first client of the day and that she would call me as soon as she gets to her office! When we did get on the phone, we got straight to business! I answered a few questions and she began with the process to let me know what i should expect, it was no where near the estimate i got from H&R Block, 3,000$ short actually, so i asked why, and if it had something to do with the Earned income credit.. her tone changed immediately! She then told me that i didnt work enough so thats why my return was so low, that what i made for 2021 is what people ‘normally make in one month’, they did something wrong, and that the only reason why im getting a return this year is because of my dependent. NOT that if your 2021 earned income decreased, you might get a larger EIC by using your 2019 earned income to calculate this credit, which i found out on my own. She then proceeded to hang up on me amd unfriend me when i told her i would like to get back to her to file after i did my research on the Earned Income Credit. 😑 how petty and unprofessional… all because i wanted to get my maxium refund & ask some questions …she then stated that i wouldnt have gotten any info on the EIC being able to use my 2019 return because i went through her app.
