I would NOT recommend Richard Barnes for any financial or tax services. A few years ago (2019) I hired him to complete my taxes, and he was very unprofessional, and did not submit my taxes. I found him through the Dave Ramsey website, and thought he would be a reputable agency to use. He initially reached out to me very quickly. We spoke only on the phone (this was prior to COVID when everything went virtual), but since this was my first time hiring a tax professional, I did not know what the typical protocol was. After the initial conversations, he became very difficult to get a hold of and eventually stopped responding. I submitted all my documentation through his online portal, as he requested and he informed me he would complete my taxes. I tried to follow up on several occasions through phone calls, voicemails and even scheduled a “new client” meeting in hopes to discuss my taxes during the summer, but never heard back from him. Several months later, I was notified by my employer that the government would garnish my paycheck due to unpaid taxes. Additionally, I was charged penalty fees by the government for not filing my taxes. This was incredibly frustrating and completely embarrassing to have my employer inform me that I would not be paid the following weeks due to taxes. Again, I reached out to Richard and he did not respond. Only after following up with Dave Ramsey, and involving his mediator, did I receive a response from Richard. After multiple emails back and forth, Richard finally submitted my taxes, and I eventually received reimbursement from the government for the penalty fee that I was charged for unfiled taxes. This was a long process, took several months, and was incredibly frustrating (not to mention embarrassing). I would not recommend Richard Barnes for any services! He is very unprofessional, and does not follow through with the services that he claims to provide. I would not want anyone to go through the hassle that I experienced.

I've had multiple appointments with Richard, which he has kept. About 5 altogether over the course of a couple of years. Other reviewers mention his lack of email responses and that's true. His advice was so high level and he has such vast experience that it was totally worth my time to figure out that he's a guy who is best contacted by his website and setting up an appointment. He's available after hours and on weekends. If you need complex advice or just simple advice, give him a call. If you trust him, allow him to check your past tax returns. He got us $3k back.

Richard Barnes was recommended to us as a (Dave) Ramsey Solutions local pro for our business and personal taxes. 2 meetings went great, but then he missed a scheduled appointment and stopped responding to phone calls and emails without an explanation. Very unprofessional to ghost clients.

I had an over-the-phone appointment with Richard Barnes which had seemed to go well. He told me that he would be sending my documentation via mail to sign and return to the IRS, as well as send me an invoice. I received nothing of the sort and it's been 3 weeks. I have emailed several times to no avail, called at least 5 times to leave voicemails, and even made an appointment where I never even received a call. This has been hands down the worst customer service experience of my life and I will tell the entire state of North Carolina if I have to to STEER CLEAR. Oh, I was also hung up on by their customer service representative. This company is a disaster and a disgrace.
