Russ and his team do a great job keeping track of our books and filing our taxes for our residential cleaning business, Maid To Clean! He is easy to work with, and his bookkeepers and accountants do a great job of communicating. Completely recommend for any small business

I have used a few different firms to file my taxes, but last year I went with MoneySmarts after being referred to them. I had W2 and 1099 income, and they did the most thorough job I have ever seen. This year was nothing short of the same quality of work. I use Jessica and Jacob, and they have been easy to work with and communicate with. Jacob Flores has done a wonderful job reaching out to me and working with me to maximize deductions. I am beyond pleased with my experience and will recommend anyone and everyone to use them.

Very grateful for Russ Cowan at MoneySmarts! I was really nervous about our taxes this year, because I started a small business in 2023. Russ quickly and professionally did our taxes, answered our questions, and explained how to move forward. We left our appointment feeling much more relaxed...who can say that? Need a tax genius that you can actually comprehend? Look no further. And shout out to Brandy at the front desk- very nice, and easy to talk to! Highly recommend this place!

First off I didn’t want to have to leave this review but at this point it’s only right. A couple years ago my wife received a referral to money smarts. Turns out Jessica there knows my wife and offered to help. She helped prepare that years taxes but after awhile I realized I haven’t received any information so when I called to ask turns out she just never filed. Our next time meeting we spent 1 HOUR getting logged into quickbooks and that’s all we had time for because it took so long. I initially thought we were having them take care of this for us but turns our she signed us to do this on our own. After that, I tried reaching Jessica so she can help navigate quickbooks since she helped sign us up and we didn’t know at all how to even use it. She dodged me for MONTHS. Finally I just called the office and asked for her and instead of apologizing for leaving us hanging she said she was too busy with other clients and she is passing us to Jacob. That annoyed me considering she offered to help us get organized! I would have never signed up if it wasn’t for her. Jacob was nice however there was too much information to retain after 1 or 2 times meeting, every time I left I felt more confused and overwhelmed. Needless to say, we found reliable people to work with this year and they are uncovering the mess money smarts created for me. One being my EIN was typed incorrectly last year (which I paid for) and also discovering some expenses were missed. I felt money smarts were the experts so I didn’t question too much which was my mistake. We are thankful to now be working with people who care, who are detailed, informative, and even with the headache of last years mess, they are handling everything for me. Not to mention, they don’t make us feel like an inconvenience. I wouldn’t recommend this place and can say some of these other reviews are unfortunately relatable.

I was completely disappointed with the service I received. I was a new business owner, and when I signed up with money smarts I made it clear to them I wanted them to do all of my book keeping, and to do my taxes and was clear with them I wasn’t sure all I needed to pay in. But that I wanted them to make sure all of my taxes got paid, and I wanted them done quarterly. 9 months in I found out they haven’t even done my quarterly taxes, resulting in me owing so much money now at the end of the year. Not only that but when I had tried to contact them about it, it took 2 weeks of phone tag, and excuses for me to get an answer about it. They tried to say that I never asked them to do my quarterly taxes, which was a pathetic cop out for their mess up. They also charged me for the last month when they hadn’t even done anything for my books. This place is an absolute joke - I would avoid this place if you’re looking for dependable accountants. They might be better fit to work in a cafeteria.

Tough to explain how terrible our service was this year. Used to refer everyone to Russ and the Moneysmarts team - never again. Here’s a few things that went wrong: 1. Employees can’t manage their own software. Had documents uploaded in Feb that I was asked for 4 more times before the end of April. Because they made me multiple log ins, with random choice of LLCs on each. At least twice the accountant failed to hit reply all, even when I explicitly state a partner is cc’d and will be a point of contact. Just low IQ stuff.. 2. Took 1-2 weeks to get a response each time. One of my partner’s never received a response, not one. 3. Caught a mistake on a return, which lead to discovering the same mistake since 2019 on previous returns. Cost me an extra 43k in cap gains, even though the gains never existed. 4. Office called me at 7pm the day of filing and said if I don’t pay my bill they won’t file it. Paid the bill by 7:30, they did not answer the phone nor file the return. This was BEYOND infuriating since I know it’s not policy, and it was already after the deadline when she called. 5. Week of filing, said we need different state ID’s to file. Our attorney at a big firm in town said they haven’t seen that on any of their other clients. Dep. of Rev even said it wasn’t necessary. After a week of them failing to explain it, they gave up and reverted to federal EIN. 6. Cost us over a grand in late filing penalties.
