Since Mr Perez, my 90 year old mother, who had been having her taxes prepared at this office for nearly 20 years (Perez purchased the business from the previous owner) refuses to take phone calls and has no direct email contact on the website, I can only complain about how he treated my mother through his secretary, Shawna. Mr Perez, for a reason neither my mom or her recently deceased husband could explain, requested a filing extension. For months, my mom has been trying to complete her 2023 taxes. Since my stepfather passed, I have tried assisting mom. I have repeatedly been given conflicting information from Shawna each time I have called or emailed. Mom sent a box, with the assistance of my sister, of tax documents requested. When Shawna received the box, she told Mom she had “everything.” Whenever Mom would call to inquire about the process, Shawna would say she needed “one more thing.” My poor mother was thoroughly confused. I tried to help by calling Shawna myself, I figured mom might not be hearing everything correctly. I asked Shawna to give me a complete list of all that she needed, and i immediately sent the requested documents (many of which she already had, and I reminded her to check her email). She would acknowledge having some Of the documents, but then she’d say she needed “one more thing.” After weeks of this kind of confused communication, worried that the deadline was within weeks, I called the office again. When I confronted shawna about this slow and inefficient service, she replied, “I don’t like your attitude. We will not do your mom’s taxes.” I was shocked by her rash response. I mean, I didn’t use inappropriate language of any kind, and I did not raise my voice. I did, however, call her out for her inconsistencies. I profusely apologized for my “attitude” and I asked her not to punish my mom for my bad attitude. I even promised to never Call again. I asked to speak to Mr Perez; I asked that Mr Perez speak to my mother; both requests were denied. I will admit that I was confrontation, and I asked Shawna to understand my frustration and my anxiety over trying to help my mother. She would not budge and Mr Perez, to whom she was apparently getting her orders from, refused to talk to my mother. My mother recently (June 2024) lost her husband and she is unable to complete her own taxes. My husband and I are trying to find someone to help, but time is running out. My mom lives in Southern California near us, and she is unable to go directly to Mr. Perez’s office, but he knows her and they have had a good working relationship until now. It seems unprofessional and unkind of him to drop my mom so suddenly, and we really do not know what to do. Shawna said she would “two day FedEx my parents’ paperwork and she assured us that we’d have everything by Thursday, which was yesterday, but the tracking shows it was processed but not in transit. We’d like to request that Mr Perez at least show my mother the respect she deserves and call her. Maybe a person to person discussion will soften his heart. She really needs his help.

I worked with this knowledgeable EA to fix a previous tax year error. Mr. Perez and his entire staff were friendly, attentive, and they went above and beyond to fix the IRS issue. He took the time to answer my questions regarding tax issues and current regulations. He immediately found the problem and explained it to me in detail in a manner a layperson would understand [I’m a biologist and don’t know much about taxes and find them intimidating]. I have not had such a skillful, courteous experience from a tax professional before. Mr. Perez went to bat for me to mitigate my tax burden. I am extremely grateful for his and his staff’s exceptional efforts and will work with him/them again. I highly recommend them!
