We talked with Sam Kan about handling our bookkeeping when our bookkeeper of 40 years retires. It looks like we may go with an in-house bookkeeper simply because we're looking for someone to handle more than just bookkeeping. However, if we decide to go with outsourced accounting, SK Accountancy will be our choice. When talking with Sam it became immediately apparent that he was most interested in making sure our needs were met, not just getting another account. He took the time to explain all of the advantages and disadvantages of what his firm could provide vs. what an in-house bookkeeper could provide in a truly non-biased way. He didn't gloss over anything and did a great job setting up realistic expectations. He also repeats and summarizes all important points to make sure you understand. Communication is very important with any professional or service. If both parties have different goals but they think they're in sync things usually end up poorly. Sam clearly understands this. We talked to several other outsourced accountants and his honest style isn't common. Boasting and over-promising seem to be pretty common, and any gaps are only discovered if you happen to ask the right questions. If you're looking for an accountant with integrity and your best interests at heart, talk to Sam. If we do hire a full-time employee to do our bookkeeping, I have no doubt that we'll be missing out on some of the expertise SK Accountancy provides, but in life there are always tradeoffs. If our business was just a little smaller, we would certainly contract with SK Accountancy.
