I had a lingering debt with the IRS since 2012 due to a major misunderstanding from them around an inheritance I received. For years the IRS kept taking money from my returns leaving me high and dry every tax season. This year was my first official year as a 1099 and when I went to file, the advisor at HR Block said as a head of household, with a stay at home wife and toddler we would owe $1,600!!! Absolutely absurd!! We decided to look at other options and after speaking with Summer at Top Notch she not only taught us how all the ins and outs of tax credits vs write offs work but she got us a $6,000 tax return that cleared our 12 year debt, covered our Oregon state taxes, and left us with $2,000!!!
